Pride,
envy, gluttony, lust, anger, greed and sloth, the original Seven Deadly
Sins were deemed by the early Catholic Church to send you to hell.
These original deadlysins (mortal sins) required absolution for the
sinnerto avoid hell. From what I understand about the Catholic Church
absolution is when you go into a little booth and confess your sins to
the priest, he then gives you something to do or say to show your
repentance. In his L'Osservatore interview, Monsignor Gianfranco
Girotti said pollution and genetic engineering, as well as drug
dealing, abortion, pedophilia, social injustice and extreme wealth were
now on record as mortal sins. Link below or Google new seven deadly
sins.

All of the sins that have been listed above except extreme wealth, can be derived from the original Ten Commandments.
As you can see the first 5 are sins toward God and the last are sins toward man.
Sins toward God
Thou
shalt have no other gods before me. Thou shalt not make unto thee any
graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or
that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:
Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD
thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the
children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; And
showing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my
commandments. Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain;
for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labor,
and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy
God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy
daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy
stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven
and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh
day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. Sins toward man
Honor thy father
and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD
thy God giveth thee. Thou shalt not kill. Thou shalt not commit
adultery. Thou shalt not steal. Thou shalt not bear false witness
against thy neighbor. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's house, thou
shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife, nor his manservant, nor his
maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy
neighbor's. (Exodus 20:3-17)
Also you should keep yourself pure and not sin against the Holy Spirit which resides in you.
What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not
your own?
(1 Corinthians 6:19)
From what I have read in the Bible a sin is a sin and all have come short of the Glory of God.
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
(Romans 3:23)
But we have a Savior in Jesus Christ.
Joh 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
It seems real simple to me, I don't know why some people try to make it so hard to have eternal life. John saw and walked
with Jesus and had this to say.
That
which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have
fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and
with his Son Jesus Christ. And these things write we unto you, that
your joy may be full. This then is the message which we have heard of
him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness
at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in
darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as
he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood
of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. If we say that we
have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we
confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and
to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not
sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. (1 John 1:3-10)
Paul in his letter to the Romans said:
That
if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe
in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be
saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with
the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture saith,
Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. (Romans 10:9-11)
As I said at the
beginning I take issue with their classification of extreme wealth as a
sin. For one thing what is the cut off for extreme wealth, is it 1
billion or 70 billion like Warren Buffet. Bill Gates has about 67
billion and gives away tons of money each year. Was Abraham of old who is the father of faith a sinner because of his wealth? Or King Solomon ?
So king Solomon exceeded all the kings of the earth for riches and for wisdom.
(1 Kings 10:23)
Paul
in a letter to Timothy tells it like it is. If you have any amount of
money and love your money more than God then it is a sin. The love of
money will only bring you heartache but that does not mean that we
should all be poor. Paul said to be content where you are in life, but
if the lord blesses you with a better job that does not mean that you
should not take it. But they that will be rich fall into temptation and
a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in
destruction and perdition. For the love of money is the root of all
evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith,
and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. (1 Timothy 6:9-10)
God never promises you a wealthy or comfortable life he only promises you your daily bread.
When
you repent and ask God to forgive you of your sins, and ask Jesus to
come into your heart, He will. If you believe that Jesus died for your
sins, arose on the third day and sits at the right hand of the Father,
you should be a happy person. Your name is in the book of life and no
one can remove it. As you go through life you will sin, we live in a
sinful world, but you have eternal life through Christ Jesus. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they
follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never
perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father,
which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck
them out of my Father's hand.
